Nour Sokhon

Revisiting: Resisting Turbulence is an audiovisual concert that transforms personal narratives gathered from the streets of Beirut into an intimate shared journey with the audience. Using a selection of Myriam Bolous's images from What's Ours as a visual score, Sokhon builds an auditory landscape from interviews they conducted across Beirut in 2019, just days before the Lebanese revolution began. As carriers of intergenerational post-war trauma, both artists are fuelled by the notion of the revolution's infinite possibilities for a reawakening to take place in a city that is burdened by a constant state of restlessness. The interviewees that willingly shared their personal narratives with meticulous detail shed light upon people's desire to be heard. The concert traces a timeline from people's state of suspension before the revolution to their awakening after it began, extending further to the aftermath of recent upheavals - the economic collapse, the 2020 Beirut Port Blast, the 2024 war, and the current war. This piece extends Sokhon’s previous piece Resisting Turbulence, commissioned by Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, revisiting how turbulence settles, transforms, or persists.

«إعادة زيارة: مقاومة الاضطراب» هو عرض سمعي بصري يحوّل الحكايات الشخصية المجمَّعة من شوارع بيروت إلى رحلة حميمة ومشتركة مع الجمهور. بالاستناد إلى مجموعة مختارة من صور Myriam Boulos من مشروع «ما لنا»، تبني Sokhon مشهدًا صوتيًا انطلاقًا من مقابلات أُجريت في أنحاء بيروت عام 2019، قبل أيام قليلة من اندلاع الثورة اللبنانية.

وبصفتهما حاملتين لذاكرة ما بعد الحرب والصدمات المتوارثة عبر الأجيال، تستمدّ الفنانتان طاقتهما من فكرة الإمكانيات اللامتناهية التي حملتها الثورة لإيقاظ جديد يمكن أن يحدث في مدينة مثقلة بحالة دائمة من القلق والاضطراب. أما الأشخاص الذين شاركوا قصصهم الشخصية بتفاصيل دقيقة، فقد سلّطوا الضوء على رغبة الناس العميقة في أن يُصغى إليهم.

يتتبّع العرض خطًا زمنيًا يبدأ من حالة التعليق والجمود التي عاشها الناس قبل الثورة، مرورًا بلحظة الصحوة التي رافقت انطلاقها، وصولًا إلى تداعيات الاضطرابات الأخيرة: الانهيار الاقتصادي، وانفجار مرفأ بيروت عام 2020، وحرب 2024، والحرب الحالية.

يمتد هذا العمل من مشروع «مقاومة الاضطراب» السابق لـ Sokhon، والذي أُنجز بتكليف من Henie Onstad Kunstsenter، ليعيد النظر في كيفية استقرار الاضطراب أو تحوّله أو استمراره.
